Gelli Printmaking Workshop

Gelli plate printing (or gel printing) is an accessible form of monoprinting that uses a soft, reusable gelatinous plate. Artists apply acrylic paint to the surface, create textures or patterns using everyday objects like stencils, bubble wrap, or leaves, and transfer the unique design onto paper or fabric. Creative Aging certified teaching artist, Lanell Dike, will be teaching the workshop. She teaches watercolor and printmaking classes throughout southern Utah. Lanell's approach emphasizes accessibility and confidence-building, making art-making enjoyable for beginners and experienced artists alike.
This event is funded by the Utah Aging Coalition as part of the Utah Creative Aging Coalition's Kaleidoscope festival (a celebration of creativity, connection, and lifelong learning for older adults across Utah) running August 22–September 19.

UTAH SHAKESPEARE THEATRE TRIP FOR SENIORS

For 2027, ROAR and the Kane Country Active Living Centers are collaborating to fund a bus of senior citizens to travel to Cedar City for lunch and attend a musical play during the 2027 season of the Utah Shakespeare Festival. The Drowsy Chaperone is the current choice for a 2pm matinee performance so that the participants can be safely returned home before dark.
The Drowsy Chaperone is described as: A love letter to golden-age musicals, The Drowsy Chaperone bursts with tap-dancing joy, witty parody, and infectious heart. As a reclusive musical theatre fan drops the needle on his favorite record, the show springs to life in his apartment—complete with glamorous stars, mistaken identities, and nonstop laughter. Equal parts satire and celebration, it’s an irresistible valentine to the magic of theatre. This five time Tony-Award winning musical farce serves as a loving send-up of 1920’s American musical comedy.

Past Programs
HANDS IN CLAY
Presented in association with Kane County Active Living Centers.
This was a 3- week FREE pottery class, with all materials and supplies included, held at the Kanab Senior Center with instructor Blanca Cole.
Over 3 consecutive weeks students enhanced their skills by rolling, designing and shaping their clay. Imaginations were stretched when students painted their creations.
Blanca fired the pieces twice in her kiln. One fires pottery to transform soft, fragile clay into a hard, durable, waterproof, and functional ceramic object through molecular change.
Students learned about the Stages of Firing
Bisque firing: The first slow heating hardens raw greenware into a porous state so it can be safely handled and glazed without dissolving. Glaze firing: A second, hotter heating melts the applied glaze and matures the clay body to its final density.
The final week brought the students together during a time of camaraderie, sharing and conversations about what they had learned and created.
This class was very popular and due to the extensive waiting list ROAR will endeavor to offer this class again.
